| He, like most young lads of his age would spend every given hour in the fields and hedgerows seeking out birds eggs to accumulate an impressive collection. In 1954, the law changed and so did a way of life for him. His egg collection eventually lost in the system of life through marriage and house moves etc. If the prevention of collecting eggs was enforced upon him, the enthusiasm to study bird life was made stronger. He would collect photos and write journals and made his own make shift books, such was the fascination. Along came four children and among them was, Robert Brown Jnr, one of two sons. At the age of about six, Robert Snr lifted him up to look into a birds nest and in that nest was “5 bright blue eggs with spots” and like him was gripped with one of natures jewels “the egg.” They would head to the country at every given chance to watch and document birds. One day Robert Snr suggested they try and make their own birds eggs to re-create his long lost collection. Together they deliberated and produced failure after failure, week after week and through many trials and tribulations eventually hit on a process of producing an egg. With natural artistic ability found the rest of the process not as bad. All of this back in the eighties and many thousands of eggs later, have had it penned to them many times by their customers that they are the most accurate egg creators anywhere.
Sadly Robert Snr is no longer with us, but bequeathed us with a very unique legacy that many enthusiasts now enjoy. With his infectious energy and enthusiasm, all who enjoy this art owe him a great deal of thanks for that.
Rob Jnr now carries on that legacy and works in an ever self critical mode to head towards perfection and to hand down the talent to Graham, Rob’s son. Graham is a specialist in Great Auks as well as all others and his work also widely acclaimed by enthusiasts. These days with computers, rules and regulations, do-gooders, lawyers and paranoids the fun of life is decreasing and everything we love to do or enjoy being constantly lifted out of reach. That little boy of the forties era and the modern day person who thought this type of thing out of reach, has the opportunity to experience and collect one of natures jewels and above all, show them off. There is a belief that egg replicas will help to reduce egg theft in the UK also, so why not watch them with lenses but if you have that urge, get them from Avesovum, it is a lot easier in the long run.
